  Description of our Department

Our Cardiology Department is set up according to a structure which is standard in public hospitals.

The departmental head/ head of department is Dr Gilbert ZERAH who organizes and directs the development policy of our section. Each unit is supervised by a practitioner. There is a cardiologist on duty 24 hours a day. In Rhythmology, there is always someone on call.

Our chief supervisor Mme Viviane DIALLO is in charge of the nursing staff. The staff attends specific training sessions several times a year to better achieve their missions.

You can reach our secretaries from 8.30 am to 6 pm everyday at the following number: +33 1 48 97 50 04 or +33 1 48 97 50 06.

The Department is divided into six units:

1- The Intensive Care Unit of Cardiology (ICU)
This hospitalization room is located next to the ICU and takes in all the patients which exit from the ICU, also called « warm » patients who require telemetric surveillance. It counts 12 beds.

2- The Post-Intensive Care Unit [cardiac surgery ward]
This hospitalization room is located next to the ICU and takes in all the patients which exit from the ICU, also called « warm » patients who require telemetric surveillance. It counts 12 beds.

3- The Rhythmology Unit
Located on the second floor of the building, it focuses on rhythm and conduction disorders. Once again, the nursing staff is specifically trained for the surveillance and treatment of this type of patient. As in post-intensive care, this unit can also use telemetric surveillance. The practitioner in charge is necessarily a qualified rhythmologist.

4- The second floor
Our « general cardiology » room is located on the second floor. The patients who suffer from heart diseases which do not require to be sent to the ICU or the Rhythmology unit are hospitalized in this room.

5- The Cardiology technical platform
Cardiology is a technological area of specialization where paraclinical examinations have a critical importance.
  • the telemetry room:
That is where the pacemakers and defibrillators are set and monitored. Several time switches are constantly on standby at the disposal of the practitioners. If necessary, they can be taken to the patients' beds. Their use requires a specific training in rhythmology.

  • the echocardiography laboratory:
Supplied with esuipment from the latest generation, it is under the supervision of our echographists. Echocardiography in all its dimensions is a fundamental examination in our area of specialization. Few patients get around it because it is extremely helpful as far as both diagnostic and surveillance are concerned. It is also worth noticing that we have an extra machine to perform ultrasounds/ echographies from the patient's bed if he cannot be moved.

  • The effort trial/exercise (stress) test and cardiac rehabilitation room:
The exercise test is one of the oldest examinations in cardiology. It is still extremely valuable to screen and diagnose diseases as well as to follow the treatment of patients. It is recommended in more and more cases in the field of Rhythmology. Two types of machines are at our disposal: the treadmill and the ergometric bicycle.
Four ergometric bicycles are used for the cardiac rehabilitation of our patients after a myocardial infarction. Following a very specific protocol, the patients undergo repeated exercise sessions which enable the cardiac muscle to recover after an acute accident.

  • The consultation rooms/ the outpatient's department:
We count two rooms which are specifically dedicated to Cardiology. That is where patients go for consultations, whether scheduled or not. Taking care of patients is rather easy since the rooms are close to the whole technical platform/ technical unit. 6- The operating room
That is where pacemakers are implanted and electrophysiological studies or interventional catheterism (cardiac ablations) through radiofrequency are performed.

Room 5 is the biggest in the building so that we were able to fit in all the equipment necessary to carry out our acts and to ensure the safety of our patients. It is dedicated to Cardiology. It is therefore always available in case of emergency. Another telemetry room located at the exit of our operating room has been created. It enables us to check the pacemakers immediately after they have been implanted. Before returning to his room, each patient is systematically sent to the post-surgery care room after surgery has been performed.
