When I was a child, I could see my father coming back home late. He was tired but he always had a smile on his face. He loved his job. It is impressive for an 8-year-old child to have a father who is a cardiologist and saves lives as a daily routine. It soon became clear to me that I wanted to follow his lead.

Medicine is a family tradition since almost half of the family works in medical fields. Whether in the private sector or in hospitals, we have all chosen this occupation. When sitting down at the table, our family compares medical stories and experiences. It may sometimes annoy "strangers", those who chose other lines of jobs, but it amuses them most of the time.

During my internship, I had the opportunity to examine all the aspects of my specialty. Rhythmology is one of the specializations in cardiology which deals with the study and treatment of electric disorders of the heart. Unfortunately it is less and less taught in the hospital departments for lack of qualified professors.

It now seems obvious to me that my internship in Professor Frank's Cardiology Department at the Hôpital Jean Rostand was determining in my professional choices. Integrating such a prestigious Rhythmology Department was a wonderful opportunity for me. I felt it was a journey into the future. Everything that I dreamt about as a kid when I watched science fiction films was there, in front of me. People were able to live thanks to the machines that were implanted into them.

At the time, amazing technological progress opened new areas for research every day. Computer science and human physiology walked hand in hand. After my internship, I was able to pursue my training in the department and obtain my degree in Rhythmology. To this day, I remain strongly attached to that department which has since reintegrated the public hospital la Pitié-Salpétrière. I work there several times a week. It is with great pleasure that I meet up with the medical and paramedical team.

I have been working at the Clinique de la Dhuys since the year 2000. Being able to work daily in one of the main Rhythmology Departments in France is also a wonderful opportunity. Here everything is centered around Rhythmology. We benefit from competent staff, premises which are used solely for that purpose and the constant technical support of our biomedical partners.

With the implement of certification by the Health Department, our department has become even more efficient. There is still much to do. Since the Sécurité Sociale (equivalent of the NHS) has set a list of prices for each act, we have to be even more precise in what we do.Thus our contracting conditions have become much more complex. We are more than ready to adopt the forthcoming new tools and further progress in our professional practice which will without any doubt improve our patients' living conditions.
